1) Compare the two “waves” of colonialism as described by

2) Should the United States continue to celebrate Columbus
Day? Why or why not?
3) Ultimately, the Americas are better off because of the
European colonization that began in the late 1400s. Is this a true statement?
Why or why not?
4) Should a Turkish man wear a fez or a hat? How does this
question illustrate a modern divide in Islam?
5) One could argue that, on a global scale, the Industrial
Revolution was the most important event in human history. What are the facts
that support this argument? Are they convincing? Why or why not?
6) 19th Century abolitionist Harriet Tubman, a black
woman, will soon appear on the front of the US $20 bill, and Andrew Jackson
will move to the back. Is this a historically appropriate change? Is it a
